Winter pruning has started in the Chelan AVA. This activity brings hope and promise of a new growing season full of opportunities. Some of the vineyards that we manage has had challenges in the past that we are trying to correct. I recently took over the management of a small vineyard with Merlot and Chardonay grapes. The owner didn't have the knowledge of how to prune the vines and the result is years of random growth, dead wood and a vine that is in decline. I will try to bring these old vines back to life and see if we can get some fruit from them this year. I will make another few posts during the season and let you know how they are doing.
